In chapter nine the funeral for Gatsby was held. The reason why i choose this picture was because Gatsby had tragically died and was buried in a cemetery. At Gatsby's funeral only Nick, Mr. Gatz, and Owl Eyes came to pay their respects. I also choose this picture because it is empty. This would resemble the fact that no one came to see Gatsby. And obviously it resembles the theme of death carried out in chapters eight and nine.
In chapter nine the main theme that is carried out through this is the theme of false friendships. Some examples of false friendships are Gatsby and his "friends" from his party, Tom and Nick, and Daisy and Gatsby.
The first example of false friendships is Gatsby and his "friends" from the party. The people at the party would just show up. They did not care if they were not invited they just went because they viewed Gatsby as someone who would help them with their status in the world. They knew nothing about Gatsby. All that they knew was the things that they heard from each other which were all lies. This concept come up again when Gatsby passes away and Nick is trying to find people to come to his funeral so Gatsby will not be "alone." Thus, in life you really do not know people in life.
The second example of false friendship is Tom and Nick. Through out the book we see many of the same arguments and conversations between these to characters. They are the same because Tom always tries to show off to Nick. Tom tries to show Nick and everyone else that he has better things than most people. He also wants everyone to know this. Tom also treats Nick with disrespect because you would think that just because Daisy and Nick are cousins he would treat him better but he does not. Thus, Tom is just a big show off and does not care about others.
The third example of false friendships is Daisy and Gatsby. I have said this many times but the reason why their friendship is false is because Daisy is cheating on Tom, they did not wait for each other as they promised, and Daisy promised Gatsby that she would go with him and start a new life with Gatsby but she did not keep this true. Clearly, Daisy and Gatsby's relation was doomed from the start.
